Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has said a new programme will be launched soon to give members of the public the opportunity to meet President Dr Mohamed Muizzu individually.

President Dr Muizzu first announced the initiative during the second episode of State media's Nation Chat, saying a dedicated programme would be introduced for members of the public who wish to meet him individually.

Responding to a question during Saturday’s "Presser with the Spox", Shareef said preparations for the programme are in their final stages. He added that the initial framework has already been completed, and further details will be announced once the arrangements are finalised.

Shareef said the initiative is intended to expand opportunities for the public to meet the President. At present, members of the public usually meet the President by submitting requests to the President's Office or during official events and ceremonies.

He also noted that the Maldives' geographical layout makes it important to create more accessible opportunities for people from different islands and professions to meet the President.

Speaking on Nation Chat, President Dr Muizzu said he has met people from islands across the Maldives, as well as Maldivians living overseas, to hear their concerns. He added that even when direct meetings were not possible, ministers at the President's Office had continued engaging with the public to receive complaints and feedback.

The President also said time would be allocated every week for meetings with members of the public under the new programme, with the schedule to be determined once the framework is finalised.
