Government to revise retirement benefits for retired police officers

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has announced that the Government is preparing changes to improve the benefits provided to police officers retiring honourably.
Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, the Commissioner said the current method used to calculate retirement benefits would be revised. He said the existing cap on retirement benefits would also be changed as part of efforts to improve support for retiring officers.
The Commissioner further announced that police officers who retire after completing more than 25 years of service would continue to receive medical treatment benefits on the same basis as serving officers.
In addition, the Police Commissioner said the Government has given special attention to the police service and is implementing reforms aimed at strengthening the institution while responding to the needs and expectations of officers.
He added that the police service would continue to prioritise serving the public and work to strengthen public trust and confidence in the institution.
The Commissioner also said the Maldives Police Service is investing in additional resources and training to improve the quality of policing. He added that efforts would continue to modernise police operations and expand policing services across the country.
