More than 11,300 people have sought treatment at the Urban Primary Health Care Centre (UPHCC) during its first seven months of operation, reflecting growing demand for general practitioner (GP) services introduced to ease pressure on hospitals in the Greater Malé Region.
Statistics shared by the Malé City Group of Hospitals show the centre, which opened on 25 November 2025, first treated 257 patients during its opening week before serving 1,423 people in December. Patient numbers continued to grow following the establishment of a Child Health Unit in January, with monthly visits reaching 1,755 in January, 1,919 in February, 1,701 in March, 1,758 in April and 2,487 in May.
The Child Health Unit treated 1,288 children during its first five months of operation, while a total of 10,012 patients consulted general practitioners at the centre between November and May.
The Government is also working to establish additional GP clinics in Malé and Hulhumalé to further expand primary healthcare services and reduce the burden on hospitals in the Greater Malé Region.
