Hulhumalé Hospital opens applications for second batch of medical internship programme --

Hulhumalé Hospital has opened applications for the second batch of its medical internship programme, as the first group of 15 interns nears completion of their training.

The hospital launched its internship programme in 2025, offering newly qualified doctors who have completed their MBBS or MD degrees the opportunity to undertake the mandatory internship required for medical registration.

Deputy Director of Medical Administration Nahidha Hameed told MMTV that the first batch of 15 doctors is expected to complete its clinical training in August. The interns will then spend an additional month completing outstanding clinical postings, with the programme scheduled to conclude in September.

Applications for the second batch are now open, with places available for another 15 doctors. Priority will be given to applicants who have been waiting the longest since completing their MBBS degree.

Nahidha said the programme enables young doctors to complete their internships closer to their families. Interns at Hulhumalé Hospital also receive a monthly government allowance throughout the programme.

She noted that the hospital had received numerous enquiries from graduates asking when applications for the second intake would open, even before the announcement was made.

Applications opened today and will remain open until 12 July. Eligible applicants are required to submit their applications along with the necessary supporting documents within the application period.

In addition to Hulhumalé Hospital, medical internship programmes are currently offered at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Abdulla Hameed Hospital and Addu Equatorial Hospital. Doctors undertaking internships at these hospitals also receive a monthly government allowance.
