Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has unveiled the National Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences (NCCS), commemorating the 10th anniversary of its dedicated cardiac centre and a new chapter in the development of specialised heart care in the Maldives.

The new name and logo were unveiled during the ceremony attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, who officiated the event.

The hospital's National Cardiac Centre began providing services on 1 July 2016 and has since grown into the country's leading specialised cardiac care facility.

During the ceremony, IGMH reflected on the evolution of cardiac services in the Maldives, highlighting the centre's expansion over the past decade. The transition to the National Centre for Cardiovascular Sciences reflects its broader role in delivering comprehensive cardiovascular care.

IGMH said the centre now provides 24-hour cardiac services, ensuring patients with heart conditions receive prompt treatment during emergencies. The hospital added that the centre has developed into a facility delivering care at a regional standard, significantly reducing the need for Maldivians to travel abroad for specialised cardiac treatment.

The centre offers a range of diagnostic and treatment services, including treadmill tests (TMT), electrocardiograms (ECG), transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and echocardiography to assess heart function and blood flow.

IGMH also noted that the number of patients seeking treatment at the centre continues to increase, reflecting growing public confidence in its specialised cardiovascular services.
