Ministry opens applications for National Convention of Young Khatibs

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has opened applications for the National Convention of Young Khatibs, scheduled to be held on 13 September 2026.
Applications are open to individuals who have successfully completed the Ministry's Young Khatibs Training Programme and received certification, those who served as Hifz Imams leading Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan, and serving Imams and Khatibs under the age of 30.
Interested applicants must submit their application forms by 15 July 2026.
The convention is being organised to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the Maldives embracing Islam. The Ministry has also invited the Imam of the Holy Haram in Makkah, Sheikh Dr Yasser Al-Dosari, to attend as the convention's distinguished guest.
Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said the convention would provide an important platform for young Khatibs and Huffaz who will play a leading role in preserving and strengthening the Islamic identity of the Maldives in the coming Islamic century.
The Ministry said 621 young Khatibs have completed its training programme to date, while the number of certified Huffaz has reached 310.
