Drowning children rescued by police officer and a resident

Two children who were swept out to sea while swimming in AA. Himandhoo was rescued from drowning by a police officer and a resident.

The Maldives Police Service said the incident was reported by a woman who witnessed the children being swept away. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the two children struggling in the water approximately 100 metres from the island's shoreline.

Police Constable Ibrahim Nabeeh and resident Mohamed Aahil of AA. Himandhoo immediately entered the sea and rescued the children, aged 11 and 12.

Two other residents of Himandhoo also assisted in bringing the children safely back to shore. Through the combined efforts of everyone involved, both children were safely rescued and brought to the beach.

Police said the children had swallowed some seawater during the incident. However, neither sustained serious injuries, and both are reported to be in good health.

Police have urged the public to exercise caution when swimming in the sea and reminded parents and guardians to ensure children are always supervised by an adult while in the water to help prevent similar incidents.
