President urges writers to uphold truth on National Writers’ Day

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended greetings to Maldivian writers on the occasion of the 34th National Writers' Day, urging them to uphold the truth, be respectful in speech, and use their writing for the benefit of both the present and future generations.

In his message, the President stressed that Islam encourages learning, the dissemination of truthful information and the promotion of writing. He called on Dhivehi writers to write with honesty, express themselves with dignity and share ideas that contribute positively to society.

The President also encouraged writers to remain true to their profession and write in a manner that would bring pride to the nation and support the country's continued development. He concluded his message by praying for blessings upon the sincere work of both past and present Maldivian writers.

In a post on X, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also conveyed her greetings to everyone working to promote Dhivehi literature and writing, expressing hope for the continued growth and bright future of writing in the Dhivehi language.

National Writers' Day is observed annually on 8 July.
