Asphalt paving has been completed on Segments 4 and 5 of the first phase of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Project, achieving another milestone in the redevelopment of one of the capital's key transport corridors.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) said the completed sections cover the stretch between the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The first phase of the project comprises five segments, extending from the Official Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.

The corporation said work will continue this week on the remaining sub-base, aggregate base course (ABC) and asphalt paving works for Segments 2 and 3. Kerbstone installation on those sections is also expected to be completed within the week.

MTCC further stated that land reclamation works across the entire project have now been completed. Asphalt paving on the remaining section between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Official Jetty is scheduled to begin next week, after which the road will be opened to traffic.

The project includes widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu to improve traffic flow and address long-standing congestion in Malé City. Originally scheduled for completion in June 2026, the project is now expected to be completed by 26 July 2026.
