President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project as work continues on one of the capital's largest road infrastructure upgrades.
The President visited the site after asphalt paving was completed on the fourth and fifth segments of the project's first phase. He was accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Managing Director DCP (Retired) Ahmed Saudee.
The project involves widening and upgrading Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Presidential Jetty to modern road standards. Asphalt paving has now been completed from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Fathulla Jameel Building.
The first phase of the project consists of five segments stretching from Presidential Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal. As of this morning, asphalt paving had been completed from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
MTCC said paving from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Presidential Jetty is scheduled to begin next week. The company added that the road will be opened to traffic only after asphalt works across the entire section have been completed.
Although the completion date was revised due to various challenges encountered during the project, MTCC said the entire redevelopment is now expected to be completed by 26 July.
Since work began, two completed sections have already been opened to the public. These include the areas around the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) and the surrounding market area, easing traffic flow along the route while construction continues.
