A joint operation carried out by the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Correctional Service, aimed at strengthening security and safety across prisons in the Maldives, has been successfully concluded.

Conducted from 22 June to 13 July in four phases, the operation covered correctional facilities in Malé, Hulhumalé, Kaafu Maafushi, and Kaafu Himmafushi. Police said the operation was led by the Specialist Operations division and involved officers from several specialised police functions to conduct comprehensive inspections of prison facilities.

The Maldives Correctional Service said the operation was the largest and most successful joint prison security operation carried out with the police to date.

Speaking about the operation, Operation Commander Superintendent of Police Ishaq Adamfulhu said he was highly satisfied with the strong cooperation shown by the various police departments throughout the three-week operation. He added that the coordinated efforts of all participating institutions and specialised police units had enabled the operation to achieve its intended objectives.

Police said the operation involved officers from the Special Operations Group (SOG) SWAT Team, the Canine Unit, Malé Police, Hulhumalé Police, the Drug Enforcement Department, and the Marine Police.

Police added that the Protective Security, Media, Intelligence, Forensics, Major Crime Investigation, and Family and Child Protection units also played key roles in the operation.
