The Family Protection Authority (FPA) recorded 236 domestic violence cases between April and June this year, while a further 258 cases were referred to the authority by other institutions during the second quarter.

The latest quarterly statistics show that nearly six in 10 cases (59.3 per cent) originated from the Greater Malé Region. Outside the capital region, Haa Dhaalu Atoll recorded the highest number of reported cases during the three-month period.

A total of 281 victims were identified in the reported cases, comprising 208 women and 73 men. Adults accounted for the majority of victims, with 170 aged 18 and above, while 38 children under the age of 18 were also affected.

The authority's data indicate that emotional and verbal abuse remained the most frequently reported forms of domestic violence. Reports also involved physical violence and threatening behaviour.

In addition to handling domestic violence cases, the FPA continued providing legal assistance to victims throughout the quarter and conducted awareness initiatives aimed at preventing domestic violence and improving public understanding of available support services.
