The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that Malé Taxi Line is completing an average of 100 trips a day in Vilimalé, just weeks after operations were extended to the island.

MTCC Transport Department Manager Mohamed Nashmee said the service has been well received by Vilimalé residents, noting that the introduction of a dedicated taxi service has significantly improved transport options for the island's population.

Speaking on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, Nashmee said the service currently operates with four taxis in Vilimalé. He added that the availability of taxis has made travelling around the island more convenient, particularly as no such service had previously been available there.

The Malé Taxi service was expanded to Vilimalé in June as part of the Government's efforts to improve public transport across the Greater Malé Region.

MTCC first introduced the Malé Taxi service in February 2025 and currently operates a 24-hour fleet of 150 taxis. The initiative was launched to help address taxi shortages in the Greater Malé Region and was officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on April 2 at Hulhumalé Central Park.
