The 61st Independence Day celebrations are set to be held at Republic Square this evening, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed expected to attend.

The highlight of the evening will be a military parade, scheduled to commence at 20:30, featuring showcases by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) corps and various sectors of the armed forces.

The military march will pass through four locations across the city: the Artificial Beach near the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Ameenee Magu in front of Kudakudhinge Bageechaa, Ameenee Magu in front of Galolhu Police Station, and the northwest corner of Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi. Military bands will perform at each of these locations along the route.

The evening's programme will also include a National Cadet Corps parade, school performances, and cultural items. The celebrations will be further enlivened by performances from some of the Maldives' most celebrated Boduberu groups.
