Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has declared 2025 will be the most productive year in the People's Majlis history.

The Speaker assured that Parliament would deliver work satisfying public expectations, emphasising the 20th Parliament's commitment to building public trust and confidence.

Abdul Raheem cited regular parliamentary sessions and swift committee work. Key accomplishments included three major constitutional amendments, increases in tourism sector taxation and modifications to the Tobacco Control Act.

This year marks the implementation of the first budget passed under the PNC's (People’s National Congress) supermajority parliament. According to the Speaker, the MVR 56.6 billion budget, which President Dr Mohamed Muizzu characterised as heralding a "golden age of housing,” faces no implementation hurdles.

The Government attributes the limited progress on development projects in 2024 to insufficient budgetary allocation. The previous parliament had approved a MVR 49.8 billion budget for 2024, supplemented by an additional MVR 5.1 billion during the current Administration.
