The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has installed fish aggregating devices (FADs) at three key locations across the country to enhance fishing activities and support local fishermen.

One FAD has been deployed approximately 10 miles south of Laamu Fares. Specifically designed for pole-and-line fishing, this installation aims to improve fishing opportunities in the surrounding waters.

Another device was set up yesterday near Dhaalu Meedhoo, positioned about 5.5 miles east of the island. The initiative is expected to provide additional resources to benefit local fishing vessels in the area.

On January 22, an FAD was also installed near Kaafu Gaafaru, situated around 4.5 miles east of the island. Known for its high concentration of fishing boats, Gaafaru is anticipated to gain significant advantages from this initiative, offering much-needed relief to the region’s fishing community.
