Maldives Immigration's Enforcement and Compliance Division has launched operations to monitor public areas amid rising disputes involving migrant workers.
Officials have reported a recent surge in incidents deemed prejudicial to public interest, prompting these monitoring efforts. The inspections aim to prevent a recurrence of such issues, with a particular focus on identifying and addressing cases of illegal immigration.
According to Maldives Immigration, the task force is actively conducting inspections and any migrants found to be staying illegally will face appropriate legal action, including deportation.
Among the areas under increased surveillance is the Artificial Beach in Malé, which has seen two incidents of violence in recent months. These clashes have raised concerns about the safety of both residents and expatriates.
Last week, a local resident was injured during one of these altercations, further intensifying the need for action. Authorities have confirmed that individuals involved in such incidents will face deportation.
