The Maldives Police Service has destroyed 446 vehicles that were towed from roads and left unclaimed by their owners.

The destroyed vehicles include 378 two-wheelers, 40 four-wheelers, and 28 bicycles.

This move follows an initiative by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, which began last year to clear non-functional and abandoned vehicles from the streets of Malé and Hulhumalé.

In December 2024, the police announced plans to tow vehicles parked illegally or in ways that obstruct public transport on major roads, such as Ameenee Magu, Majeedhee Magu, and other areas prone to heavy traffic congestion.

These efforts aim to reduce road congestion, improve public safety, and minimise the risk of accidents caused by neglected vehicles.
