President outlines clean energy commitments on International Day of Clean Energy

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the Maldives' commitment to renewable energy in his International Day of Clean Energy message.
He announced the nation's target to generate 33 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2028.
The President emphasised the Maldives' vulnerability to climate change as a low-lying island nation and praised private sector investments in renewable energy, particularly solar power initiatives. He noted that the country's Energy Act and sector roadmap aim to ensure sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy supply.
President Dr Muizzu thanked international financing partners whilst calling for increased support for Small Island Developing States. He reaffirmed his Government's dedication to environmental protection and positioning the Maldives as a global leader in clean energy adoption.
