The police have submitted a case for prosecution against the captains of two speedboats involved in a fatal collision that occurred nearly two years ago.

The incident, which unfolded on April 29, 2023, near Feydhoo Finolhu at approximately 4:42 pm, claimed the life of a 52-year-old passenger. The victim succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital.

After a detailed investigation, police concluded that negligence on the part of both captains was the primary cause of the collision.

The individuals facing prosecution have been identified as Mohamed Jameel, 43, of Greenhouse, Haa Dhaalu Atoll Nolhivaram, and Yaanis Hameed, 35, of Heenaavilla, Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo.

The case was initially submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office in June 2023 but was returned for amendments. Following the required revisions, police resubmitted the case on January 15, 2025.

The collision involved two vessels—the "SUS E Speed" speedboat and the "MWSC Marine 2" speedboat.

Both captains now face charges of negligence related to the incident.
