The Maldives Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim, alongside the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Maldives, co-chaired the first Project Steering Committee meeting of the Maldives Resilient Reef Ecosystem and Economies for the Future (Maldives RREEF) Project.

Funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, the initiative is a step toward securing the country’s ecological and economic resilience.

During the meeting, stakeholders discussed the vital need for collective action to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development.

Discussions focused on the project’s initial phase, which prioritises the revitalisation of the nature parks in Addu and Fuvahmulah.

Looking ahead, the project’s next phase will involve activities carefully aligned with Government policies to ensure that development efforts remain sustainable and responsive to national priorities.
