President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Filladhoo Island Council, Women's Development Committee (WDC), and heads of institutions to discuss the island's developmental needs and priorities.
Council representatives outlined several urgent infrastructure challenges. Chief among these was the education sector's requirement for eight new classrooms and enhanced school facilities. The health sector's concerns were equally pressing, with the local health centre facing both space constraints and difficulties in maintaining laboratory reagent supplies.
The council also drew attention to broader infrastructure gaps, particularly in the island's expanding residential areas where utilities and electrical services are yet to be established. Issues of waste management, flooding, and the need for improved pedestrian access were highlighted as key priorities for community wellbeing.
The President confirmed that road modernisation plans would proceed once the development scope is finalised. Through his ministerial team, he outlined ongoing initiatives to address the immediate challenges, including discussions with the Ministry of Finance regarding Health Centre staffing and coordination with State Trading Organisation (STO) to streamline reagent supplies.
The meeting was held at noon at the Filladhoo Health Centre.
