President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged his Administration’s commitment to improving essential services in islands, prioritising population size as a factor in planning.

He stated that population size and local economic activity will guide decisions on establishing health services.

During his visit to Muraidhoo in the North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, the President outlined plans to upgrade healthcare and education facilities, emphasising the need to tailor services to the unique needs of each island.

He explained that laboratories and human resources would be allocated to ensure the functionality of health centres, with provisions included in this year’s budget.

President Dr Muizzu stressed the importance of delivering basic and essential services to meet the needs of residents.

Highlighting his commitment to equality, the President said all citizens deserved the same level of attention and care, regardless of their location. He noted that regional development plans should address the unique needs of islands to ensure balanced progress.

In addition to upgrading healthcare, President Dr Muizzu said plans were underway to enhance education facilities within the next two years. He stated that efforts would focus on meeting the specific needs of these communities through comprehensive arrangements.

During his visit to Muraidhoo, the President laid the foundation stone for a new island council building and a police station.

Muraidhoo marks the first stop in the President’s three-day official visit to the north Thiladhunmathi atoll.
