Haa Alif Dhihdhoo has become the latest island to issue National Identity Cards as part of the Government’s efforts to make essential services more accessible to residents in the Atolls. The service was launched during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing visit to Haa Alif Atoll.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, formally inaugurated the service at a ceremony held tonight. Dhidhdhoo, the administrative hub of North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, serves as a key location for various public services, and this addition is expected to significantly benefit the region's residents.

The initiative complements the Administration’s initiative to decentralise public services, bringing critical facilities like national identity card and passport services closer to the people. The expansion of these services nationwide began on November 16.

Earlier, during his visit to North Maalhosmadulu Atoll the President officially launched the printing and issuance of passports alongside ID cards in the atoll as well. These services have since been extended to areas across Malé City, including Hulhumalé Phase 1 and 2, Villimalé, and other regions such as Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo and Laamu Fonadhoo.

In November, the Government introduced a roadmap for nationwide expansion of ID card and passport services. Under this plan, designated centres in every city and atoll will provide these services by the end of the year.

During his visit to Dhihdhoo, the President also met with the island council, the Women’s Development Committee, and the institutional heads to discuss pressing needs in the island. The discussions centered around the completion of the ice plant, the relocation of the power plant and construction of the harbour in the island. President Dr Muizzu assured the residents that his Administration will address the needs of the island.
