Land reclamation work for Guraidhoo Airport commences

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that land reclamation work for the development of Thaa Guraidhoo Airport is well underway.
The project, awarded to MTCC on November 16, 2024, marks a key step in enhancing regional air connectivity.
According to MTCC, initial work on installing a bund wall to protect the shoreline in the reclamation area has already begun. A total of 378,350 cubic meters of land will be reclaimed for the airport development. Additionally, revetment work will be carried out over 979 meters, with geobag revetment installed over 609 meters to strengthen coastal protection.
The reclamation work has been contracted at a cost of MVR 106.02 million, with completion expected within 300 days.
Reclamation work had previously been carried out in Guraidhoo, and the Island Council stated that 45 hectares of reclaimed land will be utilised in accordance with the island’s land use plan to support various development projects.
