The Government has established basic medical testing facilities across all inhabited islands, including the smallest communities, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim announced.

The initiative utilises Point of Care machines as an interim solution until fully-equipped laboratories can be established.

The announcement came during Minister Nazim's interview with local media, coinciding with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of North Thiladhunmathi Atoll. According to the Minister, healthcare reform was amongst President Dr Muizzu's primary commitments upon taking office, responding to long-standing requests from residents of smaller islands for localised medical testing facilities.

The Minister explained that the Point of Care system would enable essential medical tests to be conducted locally until permanent laboratory infrastructure and equipment can be installed. He emphasised that this temporary solution ensures continuous access to basic medical testing services across all inhabited islands, regardless of their size.

Healthcare development remains an ongoing process, Minister Nazim acknowledged, noting that public concerns in this sector are natural and expected. He assured that the Administration would continue addressing major healthcare concerns systematically, working within state budget constraints.

The Minister expressed confidence in President Dr Muizzu's commitment to delivering promised developments during his term, observing that community visits by the president have generated optimism among island residents regarding future healthcare improvements.
