Critical infrastructure, healthcare needs, and banking services took centre stage during a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held at the Fenaka office in HA. Maarandhoo.
The Maarandhoo Island Council, alongside the Women's Development Committee (WDC) and institutional heads, presented urgent development priorities, including coastal protection measures and the expedited completion of the harbour extension project to enhance maritime connectivity.
Waste management challenges and electricity infrastructure upgrades were also identified as key focus areas. Healthcare development featured prominently, with a proposal to upgrade the local health centre to a Level 2 facility, including necessary staffing and resource allocation. The island's shift towards sustainable energy solutions was highlighted through a proposal to install solar panels at the main mosque.
Government representatives provided comprehensive updates on ongoing development projects, with Ministers sharing progress reports on current initiatives. President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to addressing these priorities, underscoring its dedication to improving infrastructure and essential services for the Maarandhoo community in North Thiladhunmathi Atoll.
Further to this, Bank of Maldives (BML) signed an agreement with the Maarandhoo Council to establish ATM services on the island, with Council President Jailam Haroon and BML's CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef as signatories. This development is part of BML's nationwide expansion of ATM services.
