President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the opening of contractor bidding for housing units across various islands to address what he described as the nation’s most pressing challenge – the housing shortage.

Speaking during a visit to Hoarafushi, he confirmed that 200 housing units for the island have been included in this year’s budget.

The announcement came as part of the President’s tour of several islands in North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, where he met with Hoarafushi residents to discuss development plans.

Reaffirming his commitment to delivering on campaign promises, he assured the community that 2025 would be a year of progress, with projects beginning to materialise.

Beyond housing, the President outlined a vision for Hoarafushi’s development. Plans include land reclamation, improved waste management systems, and the construction of a new hospital. He also confirmed that work on sports facilities and harbour development would begin at various stages throughout the year.

Stressing his Administration’s determination to move swiftly, he assured residents that all electoral promises made to Hoarafushi would see tangible progress within the year.

Turning to economic development, President Dr Muizzu spoke of ongoing Government initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities across the country. He pointed to the Maldives Economic Gateway project, which he said is progressing well, with visible developments expected by mid-year. He also referenced a series of economic measures implemented over the past 14 months to support national growth.

Concluding his address, the President expressed confidence that Hoarafushi would witness rapid and comprehensive development. He closed with a prayer for the success of these initiatives and the well-being of the island’s residents.
