A man was arrested early this morning after attempting to steal from a STELCO transformer substation near Maafannu Madharusa.

The incident occurred at around 2:50 am when a security officer monitoring the substation’s CCTV cameras spotted the suspect. The officer promptly notified the police, who arrived on the scene and arrested the individual.

STELCO has reassured the public that its substations in Male’ are continuously monitored by security cameras. However, officials emphasised the importance of public vigilance in preventing similar incidents, particularly in areas such as the Hulhumale’ Phase 2 substation.

The company also highlighted the potential dangers of such criminal acts and urged individuals to understand the associated risks. Furthermore, STELCO called for stronger actions against those involved in the illegal trade of stolen materials, stressing that these thefts cause significant disruption to the community.
