The Uligamu Island Council has raised urgent concerns regarding waste management challenges and the necessity for a dedicated waste management facility and a new health centre during a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The discussion, held at the Secretariat of the Uligamu Council Office, focused on the island’s most pressing developmental needs.
During the meeting, the Uligamu Council discussed the importance of harbour development, particularly given the high number of foreign yachts docking at the island. They proposed the establishment of a yacht marina to further boost economic activity and tourism.
Additionally, the Council stressed the need for expediting the construction of a new school building and increasing resources to improve the island’s educational facilities.
President Dr Muizzu assured the Council that his Administration remains committed to addressing the issues raised. Ministers accompanying him at the meeting provided the latest updates on the concerns voiced by the Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of institutions in attendance.
Following the discussions, President Dr Muizzu attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Council Secretariat building on Uligamu Island.
