The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the Maldives National University (MNU) have signed an agreement to develop and deliver a Basic Rangers Training Course on Thursday.
The Director General, Mohamed Zahir, signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry, whilst Vice Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam signed on behalf of the University.
Established under the Endheri Project, the agreement aims to create skilled rangers by developing a course tailored to the Maldives' unique environmental, social, and administrative characteristics. These rangers will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for optimal management of environmentally protected areas.
The first phase of the course, specifically designed for Laamu Atoll, will include modules in environmental science, environmental law and enforcement, community engagement and awareness, basic computer skills, and navigation. Participants who complete the course will receive a Navigation Level 2 certificate.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, the National University, and its affiliated colleges and faculties attended the signing ceremony, which was held at the MNU Central Administration Building.
