The Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Heena Waleed, stated that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) rally held on Friday night, conducted with the presence of law enforcement, reflects the Government’s commitment to upholding constitutional rights, including freedom of assembly and expression.

The rally, which began at Artificial Beach, proceeded through Boduthakurufaanu Magu and Ameenee Magu, before returning to its starting point. The event was conducted under police protection, with no interference or action taken to stop the rally by law enforcement authorities.

Commenting on the rally via her official X account, Heena said that the manner in which the event was held, with the assistance of law enforcement, demonstrates the Administration’s respect for fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution.

She further noted that the policy of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is to protect and maintain the right to freedom of expression.
