Indian government officials visit MTL bridge construction site to review progress

Joint Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Ms Suja K. Menon, conducted a visit to the MTL bridge construction site today to assess the progress of the ongoing project.
Accompanied by key representatives from the Indian government, the site visit aimed to review the work completed so far and discuss ways to expedite the construction.
The delegation included Minister of State, Ismail Hameed, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Zuhuree, and Deputy Minister Hassan Wisal, who were present on behalf of the Ministry. Senior officials from the Exim Bank of India, project contractor Afcons, and consultant Arap also participated in the review.
During the visit, the group discussed the steps necessary to accelerate the construction process and ensure that the MTL bridge is completed within the planned timeline. Officials emphasised the importance of timely progress to meet the project’s stipulated deadlines.
The MTL bridge is set to connect the islands of Male', Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu, providing crucial infrastructure to enhance connectivity in the region. The construction is being supported by the Indian government, highlighting the collaborative effort between the two countries to ensure the successful completion of the project.
