The Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, Dr Maryam Mariya, along with a team from the Ministry, visited The Crossroads Maldives to assess its food production and horticultural practices on February 1, 2025.

The visit aimed to explore potential collaborations between the resort and the Ministry to strengthen local food production, enhance sustainability, and reduce the Maldives' reliance on imported goods.

During the visit, Minister Dr Mariya inspected the resort’s innovative agricultural techniques, including hydroponics and advanced vegetable production methods.

She also observed how plants are maintained and how sustainable farming practices are integrated into the resort's operations. The visit underscored the potential for resorts to play a significant role in supporting the local agricultural sector.

The Ministry highlighted that increased resort investment in agriculture, greater procurement of local produce, and knowledge-sharing with local farmers could promote sustainable practices, boost domestic food production, and benefit both the tourism industry and local communities.
