The President's Office has confirmed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's successful visit to Estonia cost MVR 1.3 million.

The trip, which focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, yielded significant agreements in digital innovation, cybersecurity, climate action, education, and healthcare.

During high-level discussions, both governments explored ways to modernise the Maldivian education system by integrating Estonia’s renowned teaching methodologies and innovative learning approaches.

Strengthening the digital economy was another focus, with Estonia and the Maldives agreeing on cost-effective measures to accelerate digitisation and improve government operations.

To formalise these efforts, the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in digital transformation and climate change initiatives.

Additionally, Estonia pledged support for the Maldives in ongoing European Union negotiations to reduce tariffs on Maldivian fish exports—an important step for the country’s fisheries sector.

Political engagement between the two nations also deepened, with an MoU established to facilitate regular political consultations. Discussions further extended to Estonia’s advancements in eco-friendly smart city solutions, particularly in Tartu, and opportunities for training Maldivians in fields such as digital technology, medicine, climate science, and environmental studies.

During his visit, President Dr Muizzu met with Estonian President Dr Alar Karis, along with ministers and officials, to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
