Police Headquarters ---
Local authorities have halted plans for a Pongal festival that was scheduled to take place in the Maldives, citing constitutional considerations.
In an official statement posted on X, police officials confirmed that the organisers had been notified through proper channels that the festival could not proceed. The organisers have subsequently cancelled the event.
Pongal, traditionally a harvest celebration that honours nature and agricultural prosperity, was originally scheduled to take place next Friday evening at the Hulhumale Synthetic Track.
Law enforcement officials emphasised that similar gatherings that conflict with constitutional provisions would not be permitted to proceed. The Maldivian Constitution establishes clear guidelines regarding permissible cultural celebrations within the nation.
