Japanese Ambassador presents credentials to the President

Ishigami Rumiko, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, presented her Letters of Credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on February 4, 2025.
President Dr Muizzu welcomed Ambassador Ishigami and officially recognised her as Japan’s representative to the Maldives. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the longstanding partnership between the two nations, which began with the establishment of diplomatic ties on 14 November 1967.
The President and Ambassador further discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations, focusing on disaster management and renewable energy. President Dr Muizzu also expressed appreciation for Japan’s ongoing support in various developmental projects across the Maldives.
The Ambassador was escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional Haiykolhu cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
