The Election Commission (EC) is set to introduce a new system requiring digital ID verification for political party registrations, aiming to prevent unauthorised entries.
The move follows reports of individuals being added to political parties without their knowledge under the current paper-based registration process. The new system will integrate with the Government’s digital ID platform, eFaas, ensuring that individuals can only join parties through their verified accounts.
Member of the Election Commission, Hassan Zakariyya, stated that the existing method of registering members using paper forms has created opportunities for fraudulent entries. The transition to digital registration is expected to eliminate such incidents by requiring verification through official identification. The official also noted that the system would prevent individuals from holding membership in multiple political parties simultaneously.
According to the EC, the development of this system on eFaas is nearing completion, with testing already underway. Once fully implemented, the system is expected to enhance transparency and security in political party memberships.
