Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam met with the Faafu Feeali Council to discuss challenges in the fisheries sector and review planned development projects.

A key issue raised during the meeting was the establishment of an ice plant in Feeali. Minister Shiyam assured the council that resolving this matter remains a priority and that efforts would be made to find an early solution.

The council also proposed launching a rescue diving programme on the island and highlighted the potential for mariculture projects using the nearby uninhabited islands. Additionally, discussions covered the increasing interest in sports fishing among local youths and the Ministry’s initiatives to support this sector.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the council to outline its concerns, while the Ministry briefed attendees on ongoing and planned projects. Both sides recognised the discussions as an important step towards addressing sectoral challenges and promoting fisheries development at the local level.
