President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his congratulations to Bart De Wever on being sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium.

In a formal letter addressed to Prime Minister De Wever, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his best wishes for a successful tenure and expressed confidence in the new leader’s ability to fulfill the aspirations of the Belgian people.

The President also reflected on the long-standing diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Belgium, which have spanned nearly five decades and have been characterized by mutual respect and goodwill.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations and working together on global issues of shared interest.

Belgium and the Maldives have maintained diplomatic ties since 1977, collaborating in areas such as trade, tourism, and environmental sustainability.

The Maldivian Government has expressed interest in further enhancing these relations under the leadership of Prime Minister De Wever.
