By the end of this year, police services will be established on every inhabited island in the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced in his Presidential Address to Parliament, on Thursday.

Since taking office, President Dr Muizzu's Administration has opened police stations on 27 islands. He stated that efforts are underway to introduce police services in 39 more islands that currently lack them. Once these plans are implemented, every island in the country will have an operational police presence.

In addition to expanding coverage, the Government is also working to improve existing police infrastructure. On 20 islands where police services are currently operating from temporary buildings, construction will begin on permanent police stations to strengthen law enforcement facilities.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also outlined broader efforts to combat crime, particularly addressing drug-related offenses and gang violence. To support these initiatives, the Maldives Police Service will receive additional resources and personnel to enhance its capacity.
