President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the transformative potential of the modernised Zakat system in bringing about significant positive changes to the Maldives' financial stability and social justice.

In his Presidential Address at the opening session of the People's Majlis for 2025, the President emphasised that the implementation of Zakat principles will pave the way for national prosperity, with the hopeful vision of eradicating extreme poverty in the country.

The President shared that the establishment of Zakat House has been instrumental in strengthening and expanding the Zakat system. This institution plays a key role in initiating income-generating projects aimed at supporting individuals registered in the poverty registry. By creating sustainable resources, these initiatives are designed to improve the livelihoods of the most vulnerable segments of society.

Additionally, the International Zakat Conference (INZAC) was convened to develop guidelines and regulations that support the modernisation of the Zakat system. This conference also served as a platform to enhance technical capabilities, ensuring that Zakat operations are effectively managed through modern technology.

The President underscored that this year is dedicated to practical work, marking a national season of delivering tangible results in economic and social development.
