In his Presidential Address at the opening session of the People's Majlis for 2025, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the Maldives as a nation deeply rooted in Islamic values.

The President stated that the core foundations determining the state and future of the Maldivian nation are the protection of the noble Islamic religion, Maldivian identity, and the country's independence and sovereignty.

The President also assured that his Administration will continue to work tirelessly to maintain the Maldives as a 100 per cent Muslim nation. He emphasised efforts to build a society adorned with Islamic virtues, uphold Islamic Shariah, and ensure adherence to Islamic principles. Highlighting the initiatives undertaken in the past year, he mentioned the Risaalath Program, which was implemented across various parts of the country and will continue without interruption this year.

Furthermore, the President spoke about the ongoing Namaadhu Mathiveri Kurun project, which aims to familiarise Maldivian society with the five obligatory prayers. Recognising the importance of leadership grounded in Islamic values, he announced the launch of an Islamic Leadership Management programme this year – an initiative that targets relevant sectors and organisations to promote awareness about Islamic leadership qualities.

The President also highlighted the re-establishment of the National Council of Mosques and the allocation of MVR 7,868,953.00 from the state budget in 2024 for mosque maintenance and repairs. Additionally, 35 mosque construction projects are planned across various parts of the Maldives this year, reinforcing the nation's dedication to nurturing its Islamic heritage.
