The Government is working on developing a new Education Management System that will provide parents with timely access to student information, according to Dr Ismail Shafeeu, Minister of Education.
In his Presidential Address on Thursday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu outlined his plans for the education sector, highlighting initiatives aimed at improving the system.
At the Riyaasee Bayaan 2025 Forum, Dr Shafeeu expanded on these plans, offering further details on how the Government intends to enhance education through digital solutions.
Dr Shafeeu explained that the MVR 45 million project is designed to give parents real-time access to their children’s school attendance, learning progress, and assessment results. The system will also provide teachers with essential student information through dedicated applications.
As part of the initiative, a specialised platform will be established under the National Institute of Education (NIE) to help train a new generation of tech-savvy teachers. The goal is to equip educators with digital tools that enhance teaching effectiveness and improve communication between schools and parents.
Beyond digitalisation, the Minister also addressed concerns regarding student performance in key subjects. He referred to findings from the national curriculum, an assessment framework introduced in 2015 to evaluate the quality of subjects taught in Key Stages 1 and 2.
Mathematics, in particular, has shown a decline, with the pass rate dropping from 50 per cent in 2015 to 46 per cent in 2023. Performance in both Dhivehi and English subjects has also remained low, raising concerns about overall academic proficiency.
