Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan has stated that amendments to the Drugs Act will be tailored to address the current situation in the Maldives and deliver effective results.

He made these remarks during the Riyaasee Bayaan 2025 forum to discuss the Presidential Address delivered by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The Minister emphasised the importance of adapting laws to current circumstances while enabling swift action by relevant authorities. He noted that the existing law provides limited scope for dealing with drug traffickers and beneficiaries of the drug trade, with restrictions on treatment referrals and measures against drug importers.

The Minister further explained that the current procedures favour drug traffickers, and the proposed amendments aim to provide more effective solutions through the law.
