A fire broke out early this morning at a vacant house in Male’ City’s Maafannu district, prompting an emergency response from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Services.

The incident occurred at M. House Plaza, an unoccupied building situated opposite the Voice of Maldives (Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu) building. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and successfully brought the fire under control. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the blaze but confirmed that further details would be provided as investigations progress.

The site has a history of similar fire incidents, with the most recent occurring in September 2023. Reports indicate that in the previous incident, some individuals were taken into custody in connection with the fire.

This comes just two weeks after a fire at a godown on Majeedhee Magu, which resulted in an estimated MVR 1 million in damages.

As of now, 55 people have been given temporary shelters in relation to the fire.
