The Government of the Republic of Maldives has strongly condemned remarks by the Israeli Prime Minister suggesting the establishment of a Palestinian state within Saudi Arabian territory.

Calling the statement irresponsible and provocative, Maldivian officials asserted that it violates international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

In a statement issued on February 9, the Maldivian Government reaffirmed its unwavering support for Saudi Arabia, rejecting any assertions that could undermine the kingdom’s sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity.

Officials warned that such remarks not only disregard international legal norms but also risk escalating tensions in the region.

The Maldives also reiterated its steadfast support for Palestinian statehood, emphasising that any resolution to the genocide must be based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestine.

The Government urged the international community to take a firm stance against statements that could destabilise the region and infringe upon the rights of the Palestinian people.

The remarks by the Israeli leader come amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza and escalating tensions across the Middle East, as diplomatic efforts continue to address the deepening humanitarian crisis.

The Maldives stressed that resolving the Palestinian issue requires adherence to internationally recognised principles rather than unilateral statements that could further inflame divisions.
