The Maldives Police Service has rescued a 37-year-old man who was kidnapped in Hithadhoo, Addu City, and arrested four suspects in connection with the case.

According to a police statement, the incident occurred at 1:35 a.m. when officers patrolling near Hithadhoo Milo Stadium noticed several individuals attempting to flee. Upon investigating, they discovered a man tied to a Joali in the area with visible injuries.

Police arrested three men aged 20, 21, and 22, along with a 15-year-old boy. The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed.

This incident follows a similar case in which police rescued a man from a Hiyaa flat in Hulhumalé’s phase two, leading to the arrest of suspects. A few months ago, another individual was kidnapped, restrained, tortured, and had a finger severed in a separate incident.

The Maldives Police Service has emphasised that investigating and addressing such crimes remains a priority. Police statistics indicate that an increased law enforcement presence in cities and other atolls has contributed to a decline in such incidents.
