President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has launched the distribution of Ramadan gifts to households across Haa Dhaalu Atoll, continuing a Government initiative aimed at supporting citizens during the holy month.
The distribution follows President Muizzu’s announcement on November 17, 2024, that for Ramadan 2025, the Government would provide a case of tuna cans to each household in the country.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Social Centre to mark his first year in office, the President had stated that he instructed the Managing Director of STO to issue tuna cases instead of staple foods like rice and flour.
According to Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Ali Shameem, who oversees atoll affairs, the distribution process is already underway. He confirmed that tuna fish cases have been allocated to residents in Kulhudhuffushi City, Nolhivaranfaru, Hanimaadhoo, and Kurinbi.
While some islands initially faced shortages, Shameem assured that additional distributions are scheduled for the coming week. A designated vessel is actively delivering provisions to ensure a timely and efficient distribution across the islands.
This initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to support citizens during the month of Ramadan. Under President Dr Muizzu’s leadership, allowances have been provided, and Government offices will remain closed during the last ten days of the holy month to allow public servants to focus on religious observances.
