President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated two senior diplomats as non-resident ambassadors to Egypt and Canada, submitting their names for Parliamentary endorsement.

Ahmed Sareer, the current Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, has been nominated as the non-resident Ambassador to Egypt, while Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, the Maldives' Ambassador to the United States, has been put forward as the non-resident Ambassador to Canada.

Both diplomats have extensive experience in the Maldivian foreign service, having held positions in various diplomatic missions. Their nominations reflect the Administration’s efforts to strengthen the Maldives’ international relations and expand its diplomatic reach.

During its sitting on Tuesday, Parliament referred the nominations to the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee for further review. The committee will assess the candidates before submitting its findings to Parliament for a final decision.
